Chang’an is a strategic card game from Arcane Wonders in which 1 to 4 players become renowned urban planners rebuilding the Chinese capital during the Tang Dynasty.
In Chang’an, players compete to create the most beautiful and influential city districts. You develop an efficient card engine, collect resources and attract important characters to your growing city. Cards are initially placed at the gates of your personal city board, where they produce resources or activate character abilities. They can later be moved into the city districts to construct buildings and unlock new benefits. Every completed card provides privileges, scoring opportunities or combinations with other cards. Since each turn offers only a limited selection of actions, careful timing and long-term planning are essential. This English edition includes the core game together with Silk Road material, automata cards, events, decrees and progress cards. These additions support both competitive multiplayer games and a dedicated solo experience. By combining engine building, resource management, card drafting and city development, Chang’an offers several strategic paths and encourages players to refine their plans from one game to the next.
How do you play the game?
On your turn, you may search for new cards, play cards to your gates to generate resources and trigger effects, or build cards in your city districts. When a player has built at least nine district cards, the end of the game is triggered and the highest score wins.
