The core of Port Royal is "push your luck": turn over cards in search of the richest ship possible. The more cards you turn over, the greater the chance that you'll be set off by a second ship of the same color. Upon success, you claim gold, which you can use to recruit characters. Sailors chase away unwanted ships, colonists help with expeditions, and special characters like the damsel and the paladin give numerous advantages. Thanks to the expansions, Port Royal can be played both against each other and cooperatively. Also, with the expansions players can choose for short single games or a longer running campaign. In addition, the cards have been renewed with beautiful illustrations. This makes this Big Box version highly recommended for fans of the first hour as well as for anyone who is curious about Port Royal.
