Gygès is an elegant two-player abstract strategy game from publisher Blue Orange, featuring a wooden board and metal rings in a prestigious edition where both players share the same pieces in a pure tactical duel.
How to play the game?
In Gygès, both players move the same set of rings on a single shared board; no colours, no ownership, only position matters. On your turn, you must choose a ring from the row closest to you. Small rings move one space, medium rings two, large rings three. If you end your move on another ring, you trigger a bounce and immediately move again according to that ring’s height, potentially chaining several moves in a row. You can also relocate rings you land on to reshape the path toward your opponent’s throne. The first player who ends a move on the opposing throne space wins the game, often after a single brilliant combination.
