Alta is a tactical Dutch-language card game from 999 Games in which 2 to 4 players cleverly place cards to create their own ideal island.
Building the perfect island takes careful planning. You need farmers to provide food, towers to keep your territory safe and welcoming taverns in the heart of your towns. Alta therefore rewards smart positioning, useful combinations and planning ahead. Every card can potentially score points, but only when its individual condition has been fulfilled. Your island gradually develops into a 4 by 4 grid, so every placement can affect the value of cards already played as well as the options available later.
How do you play the game?
On each turn you add two cards to your island. One card is played from your hand and another is selected from the face-up cards available on the table. You then refill your hand before play continues. Once every player has completed their island, scoring begins. A farmer may need to be next to a field or market, while a fishing pier needs a suitable coastal position. The player with the highest total score wins.
