Mercenaries can be added to games with any number of players. With fewer players, the mercenaries add new pieces to the map, increasing the tension and giving you more tactical options. With more players, some hirelings cards are flipped to reveal new special abilities, allowing you to explore unique and powerful strategies.

Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack includes 6 new mercenaries:
- Sunward Expedition/Mole Artisans: Strike from the depths with the Sunward Expedition or preserve your crafts with the Mole Artisans.
- Furious Protector/Stoic Protector: Eliminate your enemies with the Furious Protector or bring peace through strength with the Stoic Protector.
